Hillcrest High claims Derby Day victory

Of the 20 different matches played on the day, Hillcrest High School won 12 of them.

THE action-packed annual Derby Day challenge between Hillcrest High School and Kloof High School took place at the weekend.

This year it was hosted at Hillcrest High School and a wonderful day was had as even the weather played ball.

Twenty games were played across the various sports disciplines and this year, Hillcrest High claimed 12 wins to Kloof’s eight. Hillcrest’s first teams won three of their four field matches.

The day ended with the most anticipated match of the event, the boys’ 1st team rugby game.

Again, this match went Hillcrest High’s way, with a win of 31 to 5. Both Craig Girvin, principal at Hillcrest High, and Dawn Lefort, principal of Kloof High, added their thanks to staff, learners and parents of both schools for their support.

“From grounds staff, to consumer studies staff and students, coaches, parents, past pupils, sponsors, supporters and players – everyone played their part to create a warm and festive atmosphere and make the day run smoothly,” said Girvin.

Patrick Windsor, the head of sports at Hillcrest High School, said, “Derby Day was fantastic. Everything went well. Both teams played very competitively and there was such a positive atmosphere and good sport and sportsmanship all round.”
