Help clothe the homeless

You can drop off your second-hand clothing at a SPAR store in the Highway area or at St Mary's DSG in Kloof.

DON’T wait until spring to declutter your cupboards, rather drop off your unused, good-quality clothing at any of the SPAR stores in the upper Highway area for the Street Store campaign.

The Street Store is an initiative whereby clothing is donated to the less fortunate. The homeless can then shop for free at the pop-up store.

“We do not believe that we are engaging with a community ‘out there’ but, rather, that we are building relationships with people who have feelings, emotions and needs just like our own. People with stories, lives and histories. People who love, hate, laugh and cry. People who, like anyone else, seek to belong, to be loved, to be understood and listened to.

At the St Mary’s Street Store our greatest desire is to let others know they are valued and not forgotten,” said St Mary’s DSG’s head of high school, Jo Kinsey.

St Mary’s DSG, Kloof, in conjunction with City Hill, Pinetown, Hillcrest Presbyterian Church, Westpoint Church, Thomas More College and Curro Hillcrest will set up a Street Store for the homeless and disadvantaged people in the Highway community.

This year’s event is on Saturday, 23 June from 8am till noon at the community hall in Upper Molweni.

“We would be most grateful if you donated second-hand clothing and shoes at all SPAR stores in the Upper Highway area,” said Jo.

These include Hattons (Pinetown), Knowles (Pinetown), Richdens (Hillcrest), Village Mall (Kloof), Waterfall, Hillcrest KwikSPAR and the Maytime KwikSPAR, as well as St Mary’s DSG, Kloof and City Hill, Pinetown.
