Security guard survives Kloof shootout

The armed gunmen were attempting to steal a white Mercedes Benz in Glenart Road.

A BLUE Security armed response officer escaped a shootout uninjured when he interrupted a gang of armed suspects who were attempting to steal a vehicle in Kloof last night.

Blue Security’s operations director, Brian Jackson, said the officer was responding to a panic button activation in Glenart Road. The armed men were attempting to steal a white Mercedes Benz at around 10.45pm.

“When our officer arrived at the scene, he noticed a white Mercedes Benz parked across the road and heard the suspects, who were sitting in the vehicle, screaming to ‘get out of the vehicle’, before they opened fire at him,” Jackson said.

“The suspects fired multiple shots directly at the officer, who returned fire. Several of the suspects’ shots hit the officer’s vehicle but missed him. They (the suspects) jumped out of the vehicle and fled the scene. Fortunately, our officer wasn’t injured during the shooting. The suspects remain at large,” Jackson said.

Police recovered a cellphone outside one of the properties in Cato Road.
