Tex Collins elected as new Ward 10 councillor

The DA retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections with 94.23 per cent of the votes.

LESS than half of Ward 10 voters turned up to cast their vote in the Ward 10 by-election which was held yesterday, 30 May.

DA councillor Terence ‘Tex’ Collins was elected as the new councillor for the area, receiving 94,23 per cent of the votes.

The by-election followed the resignation of Rick Crouch in February. In a press statement, Crouch said it was a difficult decision for him and was made after a consultation with his family.

The IEC provincial spokesman, Thabani Ngwira said the party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections with an increased margin of 94.23 per cent of the votes cast compared to 91.13 per cent in the 2016 municipal elections.

He said the voter turnout yesterday was 40.08 per cent and no incidents were reported during the by-election.

“All voting stations were opened on time at 7am and closed at 9pm and counting resumed.

Final Results:
DA – 94.23 per cent – 5991 votes (2016 – 91.13%)
ANC – 5.10 per cent – 324 votes (2016 – 6.53%)
EFF – 0.38 per cent – 24 votes (2016 – 0.48%)
IFP – 0.30 per cent – 19 votes (2016 – 0.32%)
Percentage poll – 39.91 per cent
