Passionate new communications officer for Bellair SAPS

Sgt Pillay aims to use her new position to create more recognition for the work the station does in the community.

PEOPLE’S person and go-to girl, Sgt Pam Pillay has taken the role of communications officer at Bellair police station.

She began her career in the police force 16 years ago and has been at Bellair SAPS since.

Sgt Pillay’s first position was as a constable working in the community service centre. She moved on to the crime prevention unit and is presently part of social crime prevention and communications.

“Joining the SAPS was an opportunity to fulfil my passion and the mission of the SAPS – to serve and protect,” she said.

She is no stranger to the communities of Hillary, Bellair, Seaview and Rossburgh as she has worked closely with them for years.

Sgt Pillay is an experienced policewoman who was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2011, and has been empowered by numerous training courses.

This, together with her compassionate personality and friendly nature makes her the ideal person to work closely with the community.

“I’m a people’s person and always have the best interest of others at heart,” she said.

The station commander, LCol R Ramchunder of Bellair SAPS wishes Sgt Pillay well in her new position.

Sgt Pillay is also mother to an adorable son and is passionate about helping people.

“Most of the time people tell me that I’m in the wrong profession as I should be a social worker rather than a police officer,” she said.

Sgt Pillay aims to use her new position to create more recognition for the work the station does in the community.

“I look forward to working with the community and with schools which I’m most passionate about,” she said.
