Westville police request community to report vacant houses

There have been a number of cases being opened for theft of copper pipes and theft of battery motors where most homeowners have been on holiday or away from home for a long period of time.

WESTVILLE SAPS are appealing to the community to please report vacant houses or inform them when residents will be leaving their residences for long periods of time.

Capt Elizabeth Squires, communications officer at Westville SAPS, said criminals are targeting copper pipes and gate motor batteries.

“We have a number of cases being opened for theft of copper pipes and theft of battery motors.  In most cases the homeowners have been on holiday or away from home for a long period of time.  We have also noticed this is in vacant houses and properties,” said Squires.

The community is urged to report the vacant houses to the Westville Police station on 031 267 7340.
