Go indigenous at Drummond Conservancy’s plant sale

The event, hosted by the Drummond Conservancy, will also have local experts on hand to lend advice on what plants would work best in your garden.

TAKE part in the Drummond Conservancy’s autumn indigenous plant sale on Saturday, 19 May at 3 Duiker Drive in Drummond from 9am to 2pm.

You will find a wide range of beautiful, indigenous plants and trees and also friendly, local experts to give advice on plant purchases and the eradication of Alien Invasive Plants (IAP’s).

A produce table will provide a variety of delicious organic and locally made goodies from goat’s cheese and chicken flatties to gluten-free wraps, organic mayonnaise and pesto, jams and pickles, free range eggs, crunchies, rusks and more.

It’s a perfect family outing as there will be gentle, live background music and a chance to relax with a cup of coffee or tea with home-made treats, boerie rolls, and vegetable biryani.

Beer, wine and soft drinks are also available. The Drummond Conservancy is a registered conservancy and has been operating for more than 20 years.

Its purpose is to encourage residents to be pro-active in caring for the environment and to help with the eradication of Alien Invasive Plants (IAPs), and replace these plants with appropriate indigenous flora.

By promoting the increase in the variety and number of indigenous plants, birds and other wildlife in the area, the conservancy creates corridors of green, open space along river areas and between properties and fences.

The conservancy also acts as an environmental watchdog and reports problems to the relative authorities after consultation with the people involved. Educational events are also hosted annually such as frog and bat evenings, a walk on the wild side through pristine veld and ancient river beds.

No dogs are permitted as there are dogs on the owner’s property.
