“She was in a serious condition and was stabilised on scene by Advanced Life Support paramedics before being transported by an ambulance to a nearby hospital,” said Rescue Care spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson. According to Malvern SAPS communications officer, W/O Radhika Marimuthu, she and her granddaughter were in the living room when they heard the dogs bark outside and when she went out to check what was going on she was confronted by four armed suspects, one of them fired a shot at her.

The suspects then jumped over the wall and fled, discharging a further two rounds, added W/O Marimuthu.

A case of attempted murder has been reported and is being investigated. Anyone with information in this regard can call Malvern SAPS Detective Branch on 031 489 9624/489 9629 or Crimestop on 0860010111.

An appeal has been made to the community with regard to decreasing daylight hours to ensure doors, gates and windows stay locked. “As open doors, driveway gates, burglar gates and windows are opportunities for criminals on the move,” added W/O Marimuthu.

Lt-Col Valarine Reddy added that detectives are working around the clock in this matter and reiterated that properties should be secured properly at all times.
