Help make fund-raiser a barking success

Husky Rescue KZN will be hosting an evening of music at the Durban Shongweni Club to raise some much-needed funds.

RAISE funds for Husky Rescue KZN and chill with the sweet tunes of the Black Lapels at the Durban Shongweni Club on Sunday, 29 April from 6.30pm.

Doors open at 5.30pm and services include cash bars and table platters. The major social cause is to raise much-needed funds for the local non-profit organisation.

Enjoy a fun-filled evening of nostalgia from the swinging 60s and 70s, iconic chart-makers in the class of CCR, iconic godfather of guitar, Jimi Hendrix, and the unstoppable rock legends, The Rolling Stones.

The Black Lapels include guitarist and vocalist Rob Warren, bass and back-up vocals by Garth Warren with Andrew Makins and Luke Wyngaard on lead guitars and supporting vocals. The evening’s play list will take fans on a musical journey down memory lane with Bad Moon Rising to Rollin’ and Suzy Q.

Husky Rescue KZN is home to 50 abandoned and abused huskies, the dogs are rehabilitated and offered up for adoption to suitable homes.

A Husky Rescue volunteer, Ann du Plessis, said, “In 2017 Husky Rescue KZN took in 35 dogs, had 26 successful adoptions, 19 dogs were sterilised and 25 micro chipped. Just three months into 2018 and we have taken in an unprecedented 19 dogs and have another 10 on a waiting list. In total, 17 of these dogs require sterilisation and micro chipping, even at rescue rates that is approximately R14 000.

“Add to that the cost of food, vaccinations, deworming, tick and flea treatments and vet costs for illness, injury and chronic medications and our resources are currently stretched beyond their limits. We are now in a position where we will soon have no choice but to start turning away any new Huskies requiring help.”
