Dumping spoils recycling effort

TWO people were caught dumping their unwanted goods, including a broken chair, at the Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association’s (KHBA) recycling centre in Delamore Road recently.

According to the KHBA’s Marge Mitchell, the duo were caught dumping the chair and a mass of boxes, despite the ‘this is not a dump’ signage.

“This act by this young couple is pure vandalism. Their registration number has been captured and they were reported to the legal authorities,” said Mitchell.

“This of course means a loss of revenue to the Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association as we have to pay for the removal of this dumped stuff. The question is ‘why?’ as there is a perfectly adequate dump site at Mariannhill.”

Mitchell said the case was reported to the law enforcement at DSW and has been handed over to the local SAPS.

“The whole thing was on video camera, of which I have a copy if it is required at the court,” she concluded.
