Police arrest six robbery suspects in Pinetown CBD

Thanks to vigilant police, six suspects aged between 21 and 29 were arrested and are expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court soon.

SIX robbery suspects were arrested in the Pinetown CBD for two separate incidents yesterday.

In the first incident, five knife-wielding men robbed a man who was walking along Chapel Street.

Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele said the victim’s cellphone, his pair of sneakers and his R 90 cash were taken by the five men.

“They ran away after robbing him but were later arrested by the Pinetown Bike Unit,” said Manqele.

In another incident at about 6pm, a motorist was waiting for the traffic light to turn green when suddenly two men loomed on both windows of his vehicle at the corner of Josiah Gumede and Anderson Road.

“One suspect tried to turn off the ignition of the vehicle while the other one held a knife against his chest demanding a cell phone. While still shocked, he noticed two officers from Pinetown SAPS approaching. One suspect was arrested,” said Manqele.

All suspects are expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court soon.

EThekwini Inner and Outer West cluster commander, Major General James Sayer commended the swift arrest of these lawbreakers and said he appreciates the alertness of the members.
