KwaDabeka man gets 18 years for raping teen daughter

It is alleged the 36-year-old man woke the girl up and told her that he saw his father in a dream and he told him to sleep with the victim or else they were all going to die.

A 36-YEAR-OLD KwaDabeka man was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment by the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for the rape of his then 14 year old daughter.

The rape case was opened at KwaDabeka SAPS in September 2015.

Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele, said the girl alleged that, she was staying with her father and her nine-year-old sister in a rented house in KwaDabeka when her father started sexually assaulting her.

“On the night of 18 September 2015, the father woke the girl up and told her that he saw his father in a dream and he told him to sleep with the victim or else they were all going to die.

“The victim refused and went back to sleep, only to be woken up by her naked father pulling down her underwear, before she knew it the father penetrated her.

“The child lived in fear because the father threatened to kill her should she tell anyone. This abuse happened over a period of time until the younger sibling also found out about it,” said Manqele.

Manqele said the father tried  to hide his abuse and even banished his own brother who was staying with them and told him to find his own place.

“The children had the courage to tell a neighbour about the rape and she was taken to the police to open the case.  The father was arrested on 5 October 2015.

EThekwini Inner and Outer West cluster commander, Major General James Sayer welcomed the sentence and said, “This will be a lesson to other people who are thinking of doing a similar crime.”
