Family left homeless after fire

The family has appealed to the community to donate any second-hand clothing to help them get back on their feet.

A MOTALA Heights family lost everything they owned when a fire tore through their home recently.

At this stage it is unclear how the fire started, but the devastated home owner, Imtiaz Akoo, said it could have been an electrical fault or a malicious criminal act.

He added that a case had been opened for investigation at his local police station.

DA PR ward 13 and 15 councillor, Marlaine Nair, said that since she had been deployed to the area, this was the second house that has burnt to the ground.

She added that similar circumstances surrounded the previous case.

“It is a terrible situation to find oneself in, especially since two school-going children are involved and both parents are unemployed,” said Nair.

“Making matters even worse is the fact that Akoo, after an accident, years ago was left partially disabled which makes him unable to find employment.”

Councillor Nair appealed to readers to kindly donate clothes, furniture, bedding or groceries so that the family could begin to rebuild their lives.

Their clothes sizes:
Mr Akoo – size 30 to 32.
Wife –  size 28 to 30.
Daughter – size 11 to 12 years old.
Son – size 8 to 9 years old.
