#SiamLee murder accused’s bail application drags on
The state alleged the vehicle used in the alleged kidnapping of Siam Lee was bought fraudulently, while a section of the Assagay home has been connected with illegal power connections.
AS the official bail hearing of the man accused of killing Siam Lee continued into its fifth day at the Durban Magistrate’s Court, the state shifted its focus onto the vehicle and house that had allegedly been used in the kidnapping and murder of the then 20-year-old woman.
The vehicle, a black Mercedes Benz, was allegedly bought fraudulently by a relative of the accused, the court heard on Friday.

It is believed the vehicle was involved in an accident on the day that Lee disappeared from outside the Durban North home on Margaret Maytom.
During her cross-examination, state prosecutor, Surekha Marimuthu also quizzed the accused – who cannot be named as he also faces a rape charge – on an outstanding amount of R87 000 that was reportedly owed to the municipality as well as illegal power connections at a section of the plush Assagay home where he had been arrested on 17 January.
The accused responded saying, “this is propaganda at its best”, and challenged Marimuthu to provide photos of the ‘illegal connections’.

Lee disappeared on January 4 and her burned body was discovered in a sugarcane field in New Hanover two days later.
Yesterday the court heard how the 29-year-old business man has, allegedly, been receiving special treatment from an official within the Westville Prison.
On Tuesday the state also revealed 12 additional fraud cases had been opened against the suspect since his arrest on 17 January.
The bail application has been adjourned until 9, 10 and 11 May.
