Pinetown CBD robbers threaten to cut motorist’s private parts

Two of the three men were arrested by Metro police officers who witnessed the incident.

TWO robbers who threatened to cut a man’s genitals appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court today.

The suspects aged 29 and 35 were arrested in Pinetown and were charged with common robbery and malicious damage to property.

According to Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele, the two men were arrested after they robbed a motorist who was waiting for the traffic light to turn green on Anderson Road.

“Three men approached the victim and threatened him with a knife and threatened to cut off his private parts. They took his Samsung cellphone and R 100 cash and damaged the ignition of the car,” said Manqele.

Metro police officers who were around noticed the incident, gave chase and arrested two of the three men.

Many people have been robbed at the notorious intersection near the Home Affairs Department and police have on many occasions warned people to be cautious and close the windows when travelling through the Pinetown intersections.

Due to the increase in crime around that area, residents have called for the Home Affairs office to be relocated from that area and others have resorted to going to other areas as they fear for their lives.

Last year, Ward 18 councillor, Melanie Brauteseth said she received many complaints and believes the community is justified in their call for relocation, especially with the many incidents that have occurred at the Pinetown Home Affairs office recently.
