Zoologist talks about snow leopards

Tristan Dickerson’s talk is entitled, Catching the elusive snow leopard on the Tibetan Plateau.

INTERNATIONALLY renowned Panthera zoologist, Tristan Dickerson, returns to the Friends of Kloof Library Forum held at Kloof Junior Primary School hall on Wednesday, 11 April at 6pm.

Tristan had the forum spellbound last year with his talk about his development of faux leopard fur aimed at diminishing the dire threat faced by leopard populations in South Africa and throughout the continent due to the illegal fur trade.

His Panthera documentary To Skin a Cat won international awards.While he has worked on black rhino and elephant projects over time, Tristan’s passion is for big cats and he has many years of experience with the international group, Panthera.

He’s acquired some special skills over the years, one of which is a unique method of trapping.

Tristan’s talk this week is about his fascinating adventures in catching what is the most elusive and rare of all beautiful big cats, the snow leopard. He travelled to the remote and vast Tibetan Plateau – the ‘roof of the world’ to catch these elusive animals. He endured extreme temperatures of -23C and narrowly missed being mauled by a bear.
