Sportsmen give back to aspiring riders

SARDA Durban offers riding as a therapy and a skill to children with special needs from various schools in the Durban area.

SARDA was honoured to receive a visit from ExPro Team members, to view the stables upgrade project which they and other sponsors have supported.

The team met Tigger, an invaluable member of the SARDA Durban Team, as well as two of the young riders from the Centre, Rayaan Moodley and Thianel Koekemoer.

SARDA Durban offers riding as a therapy and a skill to children with special needs from various schools in the Durban area.

Senior Instructor, Tracey Cumming, has been involved with SARDA Durban for more than 20 years and has found that riding provides unique opportunities to improve balance, agility and co-ordination, all of which are important skills for young children to acquire regardless of what sport they may later participate in.

Another benefit is the opportunity for children with special needs and neuro typical children to spend time together through a shared interest in learning to ride and spend time with the horses.

A bonus for the children was to find their special friend ‘Joll’ had embraced Easter and grew new ears and allowed the Easter bunny to leave some treats in his manger for them.

SARDA Durban provides therapeutic riding free of charge to children from various special needs schools and rely entirely on donations and fund-raising to do this.

“We are so grateful to EXPRO and our other stable sponsors for their generosity,” said Mary Nel from SARDA.
