Toys R Us Southern Africa will continue to trade

The company's marketing manager said the local stores were showing growth and only paid royalties to use the name of the international brand.

IN reports of challenges faced internationally by Toys R Us US and UK, the stores in Southern Africa, including Zambia and Namibia, will ‘remain unaffected’ the company said.

“Although these challenges will have ramifications on the global toy landscape, it must be clear that Toys R Us and Babies R Us South Africa is a privately owned South African enterprise.

“It merely pays a royalty to utilise the Toys R Us and Babies R Us brand names and operates completely independently from its global counterparts, this includes products, customers services and staffing,” said the marketing manager for Toys R Us and Babies R Us, Nicole Annells.

She noted that the local branches have experienced phenomenal growth and seven new stores were opened in 2017.

“We have maintained our momentum. Our revenue growth is solid and Toys R Us and Babies R Us continues in a clear path of strengthening our brand footprint throughout South Africa,” said Annells.
