Elderly woman shot in Pinetown home invasion

One of the suspects was shot dead by the homeowner and the second suspect is in hospital under police guard.

AN elderly woman was shot in Padfield Park during a home invasion last night.

The tenant’s cry for help was heard by the homeowner who was sitting watching TV with his wife.

Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele said the homeowner who is 70 years-old took his gun and went to check what was happening and saw three men in his tenant’s building.

Manqele said a gun battle ensued between the homeowner and the invaders which resulted in one suspect being shot in the shoulder and in the mouth.

“The man died on scene. The other suspect was shot in the head and was taken to hospital. The victim (tenant) was also shot in the abdomen. A third suspect escaped in a getaway car that was parked outside the yard.

Police are investigating cases of house robbery, attempted murder and an inquest.
