New Germany’s Nombuso soars as Miss Eagle ambassador

Nombuso Khaba advised young people to follow their dreams and should not let their backgrounds limit them.

NEW Germany resident, Nombuso Khaba, who is an ambassador for Miss Eagle South Africa 2018, entered the modelling industry to boost her confidence and find her inner self.

Raised by her grandmother, Khaba felt she never had a chance to go out and explore things and her talents.

“While growing up, I was shy and at school I was just part of the furniture.”

She said Miss Eagle South Africa is the largest ‘beauty’ with brains and ‘purpose’ contest in the history of South Africa.

“I read an article about the competition and was taken by it so I Googled the organisers and sent an application. I was then selected as a contestant and was over the moon as I had just joined this industry and I had not done much because of work.”

After being chosen as a contestant, 25-year-old Khaba said she had to work hard doing charity work and attending events to build up the brand.

“I also had to ask people for votes as I needed 7 000 votes to reach the brand ambassador stage and now I need to reach 13 000 points to get to the semi-finals.

She said this journey has really boosted her self esteem. “I am now confident and I want to encourage people to believe in themselves. I also want to empower women.

“Women should know that they should reach for their dreams and goals no matter where they come from.”

Although Khaba said being raised by her grandmother was not easy, she is a strong woman today because of her teachings.

“My grandmother is everything to me. She is my darling and everyone who knows me knows how precious my granny is to me. She taught me the power of prayer and to trust God.”

She said she is studying towards her dream of becoming a Chartered Accountant as she already has a degree in Financial Management.

She also thanked everyone who has helped and supported her on this journey.
