Inchanga man gets life sentence for raping seven-year-old boy

In another case, a New Germany man was sentenced at the Pinetown Magistrate's Court for raping his mentally challenged neighbour.

A 33-YEAR-OLD man was recently sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a seven-year-old boy in the Inchanga area.

According to KZN police spokesman, Lt/Col Thulani Zwane the incident was reported to the Inchanga police station in May 2016.

Zwane said the boy was approached by the accused and was raped in the house while his mother was away.

“Community members caught the accused while he was raping the victim and called the police. A case of rape was opened at Inchanga police station and the accused was arrested immediately,” said Zwane.

He was charged and the docket was transferred to the Pinetown Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation.

“Statements were obtained from witnesses and other evidence to make the case stronger and the docket was sent to court which led to the imprisonment,” said Zwane.

In another conviction,  a 28-year-old man from New Germany was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for raping a mentally challenged neighbour.

Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele said in July 2016, the victim was on her way to work when the accused called her into his house.

“The unsuspecting the victim went to her neighbour’s house and when she was inside, the accused forced her to undress. He put a condom on and raped her. When he was done he threatened to kill her if she told anyone,” explained Manqele.

Manqele said one of her other neighbours saw  her walking into the accursed’s home and went to her while she was at the bus stop and she confided in him. A rape case was opened at Pinetown SAPS.

The man was sentenced at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 19 March.
