Armed robbers ransack two stores at Westwood Mall

Westville detectives are following all leads to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.

SEVEN armed men broke into and robbed two stores at Westwood Mall during the early hours of today, Monday, 19 March.

Capt Elizabeth Squires, spokesperson for Westville SAPS said it is believed seven armed men gained entrance to Westvwood Mall by cutting the chain from the N2 pedestrian gate around 1.30am.
“The robbers tied up two security guards and the cleaner. They smashed through the windows of Edgars and the MTN store and managed to take a large amount of items including cellphones, watches, perfumes and clothing,” said Squires.
She added the men fled in a vehicle which was waiting for them on the freeway.

“There were no injuries. Detectives are following all leads to ensure these perpetrators are brought to book,” added Squires.
A case of business robbery was opened and will be investigated by Westville SAPS.
Meanwhile in another incident, the Westville SAPS shared some positive news when they arrested two men in possession of stolen property on Friday, 16 March.
Capt Squires said the Westville sector policing received a call from a vigilant member of the public to say she witnessed two men getting into a taxi with a black stove and two wooden doors.
“Constable Wynand Laatz with the back-up of Pinetown Cluster members, Constable Zain Rangila, Constable D Welgemoed and Constable Shebe responded and managed to stop the taxi. They recovered the black stove and two wooden doors from the taxi,” said Squires.
Const Laatz questioned the men about where they got the goods from. After investigations, it was believed the robbers broke into a premises on Roger Sishi Road. The homeowner was not present at the time. The owner (36) of the property arrived at her residence on Saturday, 17 March and noticed the back gate open and her four plate stove and two doors were gone.

The robbers, aged 26 and 29 were arrested and detained at Westville police station on charges of possession of stolen property.
The robbers will appear at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court today, Monday, 19 March.
“Well done to the police for their quick response which led to the arrest of these two robbers,” said Squires.
