“Technicians are on site to assess the damage and the cause of the explosion. The City appeals for patience while we work around the clock to restore power in all affected areas,” said Mthethwa.

Meanwhile, fake photographs of the explosion went viral on social media and Mthethwa confirmed those photos were not from the Klaarwater explosion.

“We ask residents not to circulate false pictures about the explosion at the Klaarwater substation. There was a small fire and it was extinguished,” said Mthethwa.

Mthethwa urged residents to reduce usage of electricity in order to prevent overload tripping on the alternate circuits feeding them.
