Community helps with arrest of house robbery suspects

A GROUP of men were recently spotted walking in Malvern with household goods in their possession. Residents alerted the police who searched the men and demanded they reveal where they had taken the items. It was a house they had broken into not far from where they were spotted.

“Electronic items, a television set as well as other household items were stolen,” said Malvern SAPS communications officer, W/O Radhika Marimuthu.

According W/O Marimuthu, the suspects confirmed they had broken into the house twice and had returned for more items.

The suspects were arrested and charged for possession of property suspected to be stolen .

“Partnerships with the neighbourhood watches are essential and rewarding as proven in this instance as the alert community’s actions resulted in the quick apprehending of the suspects,” added W/O Marimuthu.

The station commander of Malvern SAPS, Lt-Col Valarine Reddy, reiterated the importance of working together with the community in the quest against crime. She further thanked the community for their alertness in detecting the suspects and reporting it to Malvern SAPS.
