Moseley Neighbourhood Watch increases safety in the area

A partnership between MNW and Blue Security has led to a dedicated vehicle being purchased to patrol the Mosley area.

MOSELEY Neighbourhood Watch launched its own dedicated ‘Blue’ vehicle in conjunction with Blue Security at St Augustine Road Park on Saturday, 3 March.

Corné Momberg, chairman of the MNW, said due to the increase in crime, Blue Security came up with a solution of having a dedicated car to patrol the area.

Blue Security advised them of the costs and gave MNW a specific target to reach to acquire the dedicated Blue vehicle.

“We met the target and got into a partnership with Blue Security to reduce crime. We acquired eight surveillance cameras through Blue Security as well as the Blue vehicle to patrol. Blue Security stats showed a 95 per cent reduction in crime, so no doubt the MNW was interested in achieving the same stats for our community,” said Momberg.

The vehicle will patrol the area from St Augustine bridge through to Highway Function Hire, which covers about 1 150 homes.

Body armor

The Moseley Neighbourhood Watch also shared a special occasion with the community at the launch when they officially revealed the newly purchased body armor for patrollers.

Momberg said MNW has more than 45 patrollers who are volunteer residents who put their lives in danger whenever they patrol.

Corné Momberg (MNW chairman), Jochen Chistlett (Action Safety wear) and Gareth Preen (MNW patroller) show off their new security gear for patrollers.

“We were looking for a way to protect them and approached Jochen Chistlett of Action Safetywear who suggested that we use body armor to protect our patrollers. Through fund-raising and sponsorship, we were able to purchase 20 body armor vests valued at R45 000 for now and have plans to purchase more items in the near future,” said Momberg.
