Plastic explosives found in Botha’s Hill grocery store

Staff discovered the plastic explosives attached to the store's safe.

STAFF at a popular grocery store in Botha’s Hill were shocked to discover plastic explosives attached to the store’s safe the morning after two attempted robberies.

Blue Security’s community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios, said its armed response officers responded to an alarm activation at the premises just before midnight on Monday, 26 February.

The store had been broken into and the owner was contacted.

An hour later there was another activation from the beams and the security officers returned to the site and found the criminals had gained access to the building from the same point of entry.

“The next morning, when the store was opened up for the staff to come in, they found plastic explosives, sticks of dynamite, attached to the safe, ready to be detonated. Its seems like something went wrong or they were disturbed, possibly by the security guards,” said Mathios.

Surveillance footage shows two suspects on the premises. Mathios said the suspects left behind the sticks of dynamite.
