Shongweni orphans treated to a taste sensation

The owners of Mamarazzi Pizza in Christians Village opened up their shop and treated 31 orphaned children to pizza and ice-creams.

LOCAL businessmen and philanthropists, Abednego and Roland Moonsamy, recently held a party for 31 children from Vumelani Orphan Day-Care Centre at their pizza shop in Christians Village in Hillcrest.

Vumelani (which means ‘let the little children come’) is situated in Edamini, near Shongweni Dam. It provides daily care for children from three to 18 years old whose parents have died.

Abednego and Roland’s business, Mamarazzi Pizza, which they have now owned for two years, has been in Hillcrest for 25 years.

This is the second function of it’s kind held at the restaurant and the brothers hope to make it a monthly occurrence. The children were ecstatic as many had never set foot in Hillcrest before or had the opportunity to taste pizza or ice-cream.

The brothers’ vision extends further than these parties. “Every day in South Africa we are confronted with the plight of people in need of basic human requirements such as food and clothing,” said Abednego.

“We believe that if the Hillcrest community were all to pull together and contribute in some way, no matter how small, we could make a difference in the lives of people living within our immediate surroundings.”

The duo urge Upper Highway residents to drop off their unwanted clothing or non-perishable food at their store. This will then be passed on to those in need.
