Westville detectives secure 15 year-conviction for house robbers

Simo Khoza (24) and Cebelihle Soni (22) were convicted to 15 years in prison for a house robbery they committed on 21 October 2015.

TWO men, Simo Khoza (24) and Cebelihle Soni (22) were recently convicted to 15 years in prison for house robbery.

Capt Elizabeth Squires, communications officer at Westville SAPS said they received an alert of a house robbery on Koningkramer Road in Westville on 21 October 2015.

She said the victim and her domestic worker was held up and various items taken. The victim was able to give a clear description of the two robbers.

“Constable Sandile Cele and Constable Mphiwa Buthelezi from Westville Crime Prevention were on duty and holding observation near the crime scene at the time when they saw two men running along the freeway and then into the bush. They gave chase and with the assistance of members of the K9 Unit, the two men were arrested,” said Squires.

She added that W/O Dumisani Sithole, the investigating officer, held an identification parade whereby the victim positively pointed out the two robbers. After intensive investigation, on 30 January 2018, the two suspects were convicted to 15 years in prison for house robbery.

“Westville management welcomed and applauded this conviction, and expressed the good work done by all involved,” said Squires.
