Westville house robbers remanded into police custody

The robbers will reappear in court on Monday, 26 February.

THE four men who were arrested for the house robbery in Kinley Place in Westville on Friday, 16 February, briefly appeared at the Pinetown Magistrates Court on Monday, 19 February, and were remanded in custody for investigations.

Capt Elizabeth Squires, communications officer at Westville SAPS, said one of the victims, an 11-year-old boy, was outside opening the garage at his residence in Kinley Place on that Friday morning, ready to go to school, when he was confronted by four men, armed with screwdrivers and knives.

Squires said the boy’s mother (45) heard her son scream and ran to the garage where she saw the armed robbers.

Both the mother and son were assaulted by the robbers. The suspects then forced them into the house, where they demanded cash, jewellery and cell phones.

They then tied the victims up with a dog leash while they ransacked the rest of the house.

The robbers also assaulted the domestic worker when she arrived at the house, and then demanded to know the location of the safe.

They loaded items in the victim’s Black Mercedes Benz, and mistakenly pressed the panic alarm when they took the remote.

SAPS members were patrolling and responded to the house robbery.
