Hillcrest woman stabbed in home invasion

An armed response officer arrived at the scene and found the three robbers hiding in the garden.

ARMED robbers stabbed a Hillcrest woman during a home invasion in Nquthu Road yesterday morning.

Blue Security’s community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios, said the three armed robbers gained entry into the property at about 3.15am.

The robbers smashed through a window and forced open the burglar guard. They made their way upstairs and assaulted the resident.

“The suspects stabbed her twice in the abdomen and hit her on the head. Her fingers were also bruised when the suspects pulled off her rings before they fled the scene,” said Mathios.

The woman pressed her panic alarm and an armed response officer responded to the scene where he confronted the robbers.

“Residents pointed in the direction of a bush of flowers where the men were hiding. Two men, one armed with a knife, jumped out of hiding and lunged towards the officer, who fired a shot. The robbers fled in different directions. A third man jumped out of the bush and the officer grabbed him but he resisted arrest and fought back,” Mathios said.

“Unfortunately, the officer had to hold onto his firearm during the scuffle and the robber broke free and escaped.”

ER24 paramedics treated the woman at the scene and transported her to hospital. Hillcrest SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
