Vaccinate your pet as parvo virus surfaces in Highway area

The Canine Parvo Virus is highly contagious and is a life-threatening disease for dogs.

THE Kloof and Highway SPCA received its seventh case of the Canine Parvo Virus (CPV) this week.

CPV, as described by the NPO’s marketing and fund-raising officer, Brigitte Ferguson, is a highly contagious virus that affects any age, breed, or gender of dog.

“It is a life-threatening disease and can be transmitted by any person, animal or object that comes into contact with an infected animal or faeces from an infected animal,” said Ferguson.

“Prevention through regular vaccinations is the only way to ensure a puppy or dog remains immune to CPV,” she said.

The Kloof and Highway SPCA urges all pet owners to ensure their pets are up to date with their vaccinations.

To book an appointment for vaccinations, contact the Kloof and Highway SPCA Clinic on 031 764 1212 or e-mail clinic@kloofspca.co.za.

The most common symptoms are:

Bloody diarrhoea

Vomiting
