Deadline looms for petition to oppose bail for #SiamLee accused

The 29-year-old Assagay man, who works in the petrol-chemical industry, is facing several charges including murder‚ kidnapping‚ and reckless and negligent driving.

A FAMILY friend of Siam Lee has started a petition to obtain 10 000 signatures to hand over to the Magistrate Mohamed Motala before the Assagay man, accused and charged for her murder, makes his third court appearance at the Durban Magistrate’s Court this Friday, 9 February.

The petition reads: “I’m appealing to the entire nation not to allow an alleged killer bail/freedom for the horrendous alleged murder of Siam Lee. Let’s stand together as one. Let your voice be heard.”

At his last court appearance, the man alleged he had been subjected to harassment and was tortured and assaulted by the Durban North police, the station where he is currently being detained.

Lee disappeared on January 4 on Margaret Maytom in Durban North, and her burned body was discovered in a sugarcane field in New Hanover two days later.

Hillcrest private investigator, Brad Nathanson, arrested the suspect on 17 January, nearly two weeks after Lee’s disappearance.
