VIDEO: Structure burnt to the ground at Phezulu Safari Park

Speculation from locals is that a lightning strike, during last night's thunderstorm, caused the blaze.

A FIRE broke out at the Phezulu Safari Park in Botha’s Hill last night, burning the boma at the popular tourist destination to the ground.

According to Andreas Mathios of Blue Security TV, it took firefighters three hours to douse the blaze.

“Fanned by strong winds, the thatch structure was totally destroyed. One of the challenges the firemen faced while trying to douse the fire was the changing wind direction,” he said.

No injuries were reported and it is believed the blaze did not pose any harm to the animals on site.

While the exact cause of the fire is unknown, speculation from local residents suggest that lightning from last night’s thunderstorm was the source of the devastating fire.

Mathios said the fire department will conduct a conclusive investigation this morning.
