Doggone great moves lead to silver level

Two Queensway Stable groomers recently participated in the KUSA Canine Good Citizen test, silver level with their dogs, Damen and Apple.

QUEENSWAY Stables groomers Sanele Nzama (26) and Mfundo Ndlovu (21) have again proven themselves to be true champions as they completed the silver level of the Kennel Union of Southern Africa (KUSA) Canine Good Citizen Test.

On Sunday, 14 January, the two-horse groomers participated in the KUSA Canine Good Citizen test, silver level with their dogs, Damen and Apple, and this time both Sanele and Mfundo completed all challenges of the test.

“I feel like Apple and I can do this. I believe in her even more now and we will come home with gold next time,” said Mfundo.

The pair trained for four months with their dogs under the supervision of volunteer trainer, Eleanor Gow.

Sanele will soon participate in the Competition Obedience test which is more challenging than the good citizen tests he has done so far.

The Kennel Union of Southern Africa (KUSA) Canine Good Citizen Test is a programme designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community and it encourages and stresses the importance of responsible dog ownership by the owners.

Any dog, pure bred, crossbred or of mixed breeding may take part provided it has had its required vaccinations.

The KUSA Canine Good Citizen Test is a three-part programme comprising a bronze, silver and gold level and the groomers can’t wait to complete the gold level later this year.

These tests are not competitive and lay down the foundation for KUSA progression to disciplines such as Obedience, Agility and Dog Jumping.

Successful participants will receive a KUSA Certificate and Rosette.

The two dogs were dumped on the compost heap on the stables’ property and Margaret Osborne took them into her care and allowed Sanele and Mfundo the opportunity to look after and train them for the tests.

Osborne will continue to sponsor their trips and entry costs for the tests.
