Knife-wielding robber nabbed by brave workers

One robber was arrested and charged for theft and the other fled with two cellphones, a white Nokia and a white Cell C Deluxe phone.

THREE women were robbed at knife-point while walking on Crompton Street, near the Caltex garage earlier today.

According to one of the victims, Ziningi Ntobela, she and two of her friends, Zandile Mandonsela and Zama Nyathikazi were on their way to the taxi rank when two armed men threatened them to hand over their cellphones and cash.

“They just grabbed our cellphones from our hands and whatever cash we had and ran off. Shocked at what just happened, we screamed for help,” said Ntobela.

Luckily two employees from Tyre Mart on Crompton Road heard the cries for help, saw one of the robbers fleeing and quickly chased after him.

The employees, who declined to be named, caught one of the robbers and placed him under citizen’s arrest. They tied his hands and legs with cable ties and waited for police to arrive.

The robber had the stolen cash with him however the cellphones were in the possession of the other robber who escaped.

Pinetown SAPS arrived later and escorted the arrested robber to the police station where he was charged for theft. The other robber fled with two cellphones, a white Nokia and a white Cell C Deluxe phone.
