Hillcrest man arrested in Siam Lee case expected in court today

The 29-year-old Hillcrest suspect, who is a biochemist and businessman was arrested on Wednesday evening in connection with the Durban North resident’s murder.

THE 29-YEAR-old from Hillcrest who was arrested for the disappearance of Durban North’s Siam Lee is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today, Monday, 22 January.

Th suspect, who is a biochemist and businessman, was arrested on Wednesday evening in connection with the Durban North resident, Siam Lee’s murder investigation.

KZN SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbhele, said: “ The suspect was charged for kidnapping, murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and defeating the ends of justice. Other charges of rape and kidnapping have been added. We are still waiting for DNA results at this stage.

Police said investigations are ongoing and he [the suspect] is expected to appear in court soon.

The 20-year-old’s burnt body was discovered near a farm in New Hanover in the KZN Midlands more than a week ago. Lee had been missing since 4 January and was last seen leaving her workplace on Margaret Maytom.

The Mercedes Benz Vito which was at the centre of the murder investigation was also recovered at the suspect’s home in Assagay.

Local private investigator, Brad Nathanson, who has been working on this case, received a tip off about the car being involved in an accident, and then made the connection. He gathered his team who staked out the suspects property in Assagay and made the arrest on Wednesday evening, 17 January.
