Police arrest Pinetown CBD robber

The man was arrested a few minutes after he and another suspect robbed a man in Hill Street.

A MAN was arrested after he and his accomplice robbed a man of his cellphone and wallet with R 400 in Hill Street, Pinetown on Sunday.

Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele said two men accosted the victim on Hill Street and pointed knives at him.

“One of the suspects assaulted the victim with the back of a knife and instructed him to keep quite. He fought back and they continued to assault him and he lost balance and fell. While he was down, they pick pocketed him and took his cellphone and his wallet and ran away. When he got up he chased the two men and while he was chasing them he saw a police vehicle and flagged it down for assistance,” said Manqele.

Without wasting time, police searched for the suspects until they arrested one suspect on Link Road. The victim’s belongings were also recovered. The 28-year-old man appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on charges of robbery.
