Woman (25) shot in New Germany attempted hijacking

Police were able to arrest two suspects shortly after the incident and both men were charged with attempted murder and attempted hijacking.

THE Pinetown SAPS Rapid Response team arrested two men who shot a 25-year-old woman in an attempted hijacking last night, Thursday, 11 January.

According to Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele, it is alleged the woman, who finished her shopping at a retail shop in New Germany at around 7.20pm, was accosted by two armed men.

“The woman was closing the door of her white Mercedes Benz when she felt the door being pulled and saw a man holding the door.

“She kicked the door to try and deter him but a second man appeared and they both pulled her door.  During the clash between the woman and the two men, the victim was shot on her right hand before she managed to exit through the passenger side. The two men ran on foot. They were both arrested and a firearm and a knife were recovered,” said Manqele.

ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene and found the woman sitting outside the shop being attended to by bystanders.

“Paramedics treated her on scene and later transported her to hospital,” said Werner Vermaak, ER24 spokesman.

The two men aged 33 and 41 were arrested for attempted hijacking and attempted murder. They are expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court soon.
