Tis the season to be sharing!

If you have any unwanted goods or would like to make a monetary donation to a local charity - this list will help you find the charity to support.

THERE is no better feeling than giving to those in need, so why not do a quick clean out at home and make a donation to one of these Highway charities this festive season.

Social Cause:
The Social Cause Shared Charity Shop supports the Jes Foord Foundation, Bobbi Bear, Baby Hope House and the Kloof and Highway SPCA.

Each of the charities filter through their donated goods to be sold and are marked with coloured stickers.

Bobbi Bear goods are red, SPCA is blue, Baby Hope House is yellow and Jes Foord items are green.

The shop is based at Shop number 10 at Paradise Junction, 176 Underwood Road in Pinetown. It is open from Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm and on Sundays from 9am to 1pm. The second charity shop is at Paige Place at the intersection of Bamboo Lane and Portsmouth Road. It is open from 9am to 4.30pm from Monday to Friday and Saturday from 9am to 1pm. It is closed on Sundays.

The stores will be closed for Christmas Day (25 December), 26 December and 1 January.

 

Headway-Natal:

Headway-Natal is a non-profit rehabilitation centre in Westville, 11 Menston Road, and assists stroke survivors and patients with brain injuries.

It has a quaint charity shop filled with good quality second-hand goods. You can make an in-kind or cash donation to help support the work it does.

Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust:

The Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust (HACT) is a multifaceted HIV/AIDS non-profit organisation based in Hillcrest at 26 Old Main Road. It serves all those impacted by HIV/AIDS by providing unconditional love and hope in a practical and sustainable way.

You can drop off any second-hand goods, clothing and books at HACT during the December period. It will be closed from 20 December until 2 January, 2018.

It’s main shop, Woza Moya in Hillcrest, and the plant nursery, will be closed on  24, 25 and 26 December. The Embo Craft branch will be closed on 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30 December. The Kloof branch is closed on 25 and 26 December.

Kloof and Highway SPCA:

The Kloof and Highway SPCA provides a comprehensive service to a large community in order to fulfil its mandate in the protection of animals, to prevent cruelty, neglect and suffering.

It has 11 wonderful charity stalls that sell a variety of different goods from books and clothing to plants and horse riding equipment.

You can also get involved in its reverse advent calendar by purchasing a box for R20 and popping in an unwanted item each day. These are then dropped off at the SPCA and the collected goods are distributed to the relevant charity shops.

The Kloof and Highway SPCA reception and its Village Green thrift stores are open on Saturday, 16 December from 8am till noon but are closed on Sunday, 24, Monday, 25 and Tuesday, 26 December. The organisation is also closed on Sunday, 31 December.

The reception will be open on Monday, 1 January from 9.30am to 11.30am but the shops will be closed.

Open Door Crisis Care Centre:

The Open Door lobbies for advocacy and prevention of secondary abuse on a daily basis, challenging anti-human rights against women and children. It is a one-stop trauma and crisis centre and it focuses its attention on social issues in the Highway community and beyond. It offers counselling, social support, training and primary health services.

This festive season, donate perishable and non-perishable goods, toys and second-hand clothing to the organisation. These goods will then be distributed to those in need. The NPO can be found at 7 Windsor Road in Pinetown and will only be closed on 25, 26 December and 1 January 2018. Contact 031 709 2679 or, in cases of emergency, 084 409 2679.
