Here's a few exciting and affordable items from some of the local charity shops in the Highway area.

SHOPPING around for that last minute Christmas stocking fillers?

Look no further, Highway Mail, has chosen a few exciting and affordable items from some of the local charity shops in the Highway area.

So why not pop in at the Woza Moya shop in Hillcrest, Headway-Natal in Westville or Highway Hospice’s charity shop to get those much sort-after bargains.

Woza Moya (Come Spirit of Change in IsiZulu language) is the economic empowerment project of Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust. It’s mission is to unearth creativity that creates economic empowerment through traditional quality local crafts made by people in need. Started in 2002 with five beaders making AIDS ribbons at a local church, the project now supports more than 350 crafters, most of whom have five to 10 dependants.

Here are some of our picks from the Woza Moya shop for you this festive season.

Book: Dreams for Africa Chair, the Woza Moya Crafters at the Hillcrest Aids Centre Trust, KZN – R100 each.

 

Christmas decorations range from R35 to R103.

Highway Hospice:
Highway Hospice currently has three charity shops in Hillcrest, Pinetown and Sherwood. A group of dedicated volunteers opened a little Home Industries Shop close to the Highway Hospice in Sherwood and later moved the operation onto the premises of the Hospice.
From these small beginnings the Charity Shops have grown into a thriving business, thanks to the donations from the community and business sector. All profits made by the shops go to Highway Hospice, assisting the organisation to provide quality care to the terminally ill.

The charity shop stocks good quality donations of clothing, kitchenware, linen, bric-a-brac, crockery, books, records and furniture. Contact the Receiving Depot on 031 709 2647 to arrange collection of the goods from your home, e-mail your address and telephone number to the Depot Manager at robbie@charityshops.co.za and he will arrange collection or drop off your donation at the Depot in Pinetown at 5 Butts Road, Pinetown (off Underwood Road, next to Hatton’s Kwikspar).

 

Headway Natal:
Headway-Natal is a non-profit rehabilitation centre in Westville. Its mission is to help stroke and brain injury survivors and their families, make headway to a better future. Pop in and visit the charity shop, sewing display and its coffee bar for a cappuccino and delicious cakes and snacks. The money raised from the sale of these items goes a long way to helping the organisation fund its operations.
