ETHEKWINI Municipality invites interested and affected residents to comment on the reviewed and amended Informal Traders By-Law.
The closing date for all inputs and comments is Wednesday, 31 January 2018.
The By-Law seeks to address issues of non-compliance by informal traders and law enforcement.
The aim is to create a good working relationship and enable a working environment for informal traders, city authorities as well as other relevant stakeholders.
This entire process intends to allow traders to establish themselves to fully participate in transforming and growing the economy of the city.
The amended Informal Traders By-Law outlines detailed information on how informal traders should conduct their businesses in line with informal trade regulation.
It also gives the city the authority to apply necessary prosecution to traders who violate the By-Laws.
eThekwini Mayor, Zandile Gumede, said the informal sector remains an important pillar in addressing the unemployment crisis and a relevant vehicle to drive economic growth.
“The establishment of the Informal Trading By-Law intends to inform traders and relevant stakeholders about the trading rules and procedures to ensure compliance of the By-Law so that trading is done in an organised and legalised manner,” said Gumede.
The deadline for input and comments is 31 January 2018 at 4pm.
