THOSE who are familiar with Idols SA will know that last year, Thamsanqa Mathonsi, made it to the Top 16 of season 12 and unfortunately it ended there for the 21-year-old singer.
But that did not stop him from continuing to pursue his dreams.
Ashley resident and Pinetown Boys’ High School Old Boy, Mathonsi, entered the Vodacom NXT LVL competition in June this year, just after he re-entered Idols season 13 and was axed in theatre week.
The Vodacom NXT LVL show, which has eight contestants including Thamsanqa, allows contestants to be mentored by different artists who include the likes of DJ Zinhle, Euphonik, Riky Rick, Big Nuz and Danny K.

Each week the contestants are taken out of their comfort zones and thrown into challenges which results in them being awarded points after each challenge.
With the show coming to an end, the pressure is on and the nation will get to see the progress of Thami’s journey, just one step closer to his dreams.
“I did not let the failure of Idols stop me from continuing with making my dreams a reality,” said Mathonsi.
He admits that being on Vodacom NXT LVL has really given him more opportunities and has allowed him to grow as an artist and see things from different perspectives.
He also mentions that he is grateful for the experience and the friendships that he has made with some of his fellow competitors.
