Clermont Eco Warriors: “Every drop is precious”

The Eco champs donated Jojo tanks, watering cans and water canisters to teach children to save water.

THE Aller River Project Eco warriors continue on their journey of educating people to save and conserve water with their donation of JoJo tanks to five schools in the Clermont area.

Due to climate change, the project’s liaison officer, Thozeka Ntlukwane, said it is important to teach people they can use rain water especially for their gardens.

The Aller River Project was officially launched in October last year to assist restore the condition of the rivers across the eThekwini Municipality.

Last week Thursday, the Eco champs led by Ntlukwane visited Udumo Primary School to officially handover a JoJo tank and donated garden tools, watering cans and watering canisters.

Ntlukwane said the water from the JoJo tank will be used in the keyhole garden the Eco champs started at the school.

“We do not only encourage people to save water but recycling is also a big part of this initiative. We also want children to be involved in these projects so they can also spread the word and teach their families about the importance of saving water and recycling.

“The vegetables that grow in that garden will also help with the school’s soup kitchen,” said Ntlukwane.

She said each classroom will have a water canister and children will not misuse the tap water as they sometimes can’t close the tap properly and end up losing lots of precious water.

“We would also like to thank the Cambridge University for funding Phase 2 of this project and the municipality for funding Phase 1.

The six schools reaping rewards from this valuable education project are uMqhele High School, Udumo Primary School, Christianenburg Primary School, Clernaville Primary School, Clermont HP and Etshelishle Primary School.
