Annual fund-raiser benefits Highway Hospice

Barloworld Ford in Pinetown and Pietermaritzburg have been supporting the Hospice by providing reliable and trustworthy cars for the nurses for the past 35 years.

FOR 35 years a very special relationship has existed that helps bring the Highway Hospice’s important care to the community of Durban.

Many people do not know, but a backbone of the Highway Hospice programme is their Home Care project.

The nurses climb into their cars every morning and travel around eThekwini providing care for the terminally ill.

At present, about 650 patients and their families benefit.

The Highway Hospice parking in Sherwood is almost filled with Ford motor vehicles.

“This is where the magic is tangible, as Barloworld Ford in Pinetown and Pietermaritzburg have provided reliable and trustworthy cars for the nurses,” said John’O Olds, the head of fund-raising and marketing at Highway Hospice.

“The Cave family have been the champions of the cause and there are three generations of Cave’s who work tirelessly to arrange a sporting weekend at the Wild Coast Sun every year. They coordinate the entire event for loyal supporters to raise funds for our Hospice. It is more than just fun and games, the generosity is truly touching and so important to us,” he said.

The event has produced R 305 000 this year, which is enough for two vehicles for the home care team.
