Grade 12 learner killed in crash after final exam

The girl just completed her final matric paper at a nearby high school and was walking home when the incident occurred.

A matric learner was killed and another seriously injured when they were hit by a vehicle while walking home after completing their final matric paper at a nearby high school.

The accident occurred while the girls were walking on the pavement along the M7 east bound opposite Southway Mall.

“Rescue Care Paramedics arrived on the scene to find carnage. One young woman suffered major injuries and there was nothing more paramedics could do and she was declared deceased on the scene,” said Rescue Care spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson.

The second matriculant sustained serious injuries and was stabilised on the scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being transported to a nearby hospital.

“A man was also struck and sustained moderate injuries. He was also treated on scene before being transported to a nearby hospital. The driver sustained minor injuries,” he said.

The events leading up to the driver of the single vehicle losing control and crashing into the pedestrians is unknown, however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
