19 injured in N3 Hillcrest collision

One person was entrapped in the taxi and the jaws of life was used to extricate that person.

NINETEEN people suffered minor to serious injuries when a bakkie and taxi collided on the N3 in Hillcrest yesterday evening.

Ineke van Huyssteen, ER24 spokesperson said when paramedics arrived just after 5.45pm, most of the injured were found sitting next to the freeway.

“Of the 19 people injured, one person was entrapped in the taxi and the jaws of life was used to extricate that person,” said Huyssteen.

The freeway was also closed and traffic was quite backed up.

ER24, as well as various other medical services on the scene, transported the patients to nearby hospitals.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet known to the paramedics, but local authorities will investigate.
