Adams bids farewell to Benjamin Pine

Kathy Adams will give back to the community and spend more time with her family.

CHOOSING to take an early retirement was not an easy decision for Benjamin Pine HOD, Kathy Adams, who has served the school for more than 30 years.

When she started her teaching course at Edgewood College, Adams knew that she was in the right place and had found her niche as she said she did not enjoy high school because of the subjects she chose.

“I have always loved teaching, so when I got into college, I knew I found my place,” she said.

“To see children prosper in life is one of the things that fulfills me, just knowing that I instilled the love for reading in that child warms my heart.

Adams said her first teaching post was at Benjamin Pine in 1978.

“I was there for four years and when I had my first child I left to be a stay at home mom for a couple of years and returned to the school in 1987 as a locum teacher,” said Adams, a mother of two.

In 2000, she became the Foundation Phase Head of Department.

Being a foundation phase teacher, (Grade 1, 2 and 3), Adams taught the children all the subjects including sport activities.
