St Mary’s honours its high-flyers

The guests of honour at the auspicious awards evening were old girl, Norma Young and The Right Reverend Dino.

ST Mary’s DSG proudly welcomed Old Girl, Norma Young (1999), as the guest of honour and the Anglican Bishop of Natal, The Right Reverend Dino Gabriel, for the high school awards evening recently.

Norma is an accomplished journalist and editor who has worked in print and broadcast journalism for almost 15 years.

She is also a volunteer facilitator for the Spirit of Youth, a leadership development course that is held throughout the country, where Grade 11 and 12 learners from various sectors and backgrounds meet and learn and receive mentorship.

Norma works at Ndalo Media and is the editor for MentorFeed, Ndalo Media’s online mentorship and personal development service that helps people to dream bigger and grow further.

The awards evening recognises the achievements of the 2017 class and proved to be another successful year for the matrics at St Mary’s.

Together with the presentation of Old Girls’ Awards, thought-provoking messages from both guests of honour, and delightful musical items by the choir, African Music Ensemble and the Marimbas, made for an inspirational evening for all.

The ceremony culminated in the annual leaver’s dinner for matric girls and their parents as a thanks from the school to signify the end of the matric school year and their journey through St Mary’s.

The Burgess Shield for Dux of School was awarded to Emma Elliott and Proxime Accessit to Dux of School was awarded to Abigail Wilson.
