Ella adds to her trophy collection

Of the 68 learners on her level at an international maths competition, Ella claimed a second prize.

HILLCREST Primary School learner, Ella Lorimer, was one of the 16 dedicated children from Abagility Maths Club who proudly represented SA at an international mathematics competition.

There were about 400 young mathematicians taking part in the annual Global Association of Japanese Soroban and Mental Arithmetic (GAJSMA) International Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Championship in Thailand.

With 11 levels of competitions, Ella went up against 68 others on her level.

“She did remarkably well and came home with a second prize trophy and we are so proud of her. She has worked hard and shown extreme dedication and to be able to represent South Africa and compete in the international arena at only eight years old is truly phenomenal.

“She is a real super star,” said Hillcrest Primary School’s marketer, Kim Joubert.

Ella hopes to be selected again for next year’s international championship which will be held in Cape Town on 30 September 2018.
