Assagay couple prepare for next chapter

The Greenfields Farm Kennels and Cattery have been handed into the care of Brett Farrell and David Hardwich.

DAN and Silva van den Berg are complete animal lovers and will be retiring from their positions at the Greenfields Farm Kennels and Cattery after a health scare.

In 1999 Gavin and Shannon van Zyl bought their lovely home from Jimmy and Mandy Redman, which was perfect because it had a separate cottage on the property for Shannon’s parents, Dan and Silva, to live in and a running business for them to take over.

The business was the well established Greenfields Farm Kennels and Cattery.

The couple were thrilled at the opportunity and over the years they have welcomed dogs and cats of all shapes, sizes, breeds and ages as well as birds and rabbits.

In fact, they have gladly taken in any pet whose owners have gone away or in cases of rehabilitation.

Unfortunately, Dan experienced a mild heart attack a month ago.

This came as a shock to the family as he never had any health problems.

The loving couple have since opted to retire and handed over the management of the kennels to Brett Farrell and David Hardwich, both of whom have been involved with the kennels since they were children.

Dan and Silva said a big thank you to all their past friends and clients but look forward to seeing them when they pop in for their next visit.
